Latin-American Websites

By José Reyes

I am dedicating this web page to all the interesting Latin-American websites on the Internet. I will be evaluating all the Latin-American websites intensely and will be placing the ones that interest me the most here, with a short description, so the Cubanology.com community can look them over. I will be concentrating on the preservation of Heritage and Tradition as top priorities behind my evaluations. These websites posted here are also very informative and very educational. Most of these websites are Bilingual which is very important.

CubaGenWeb.org From website: Everyone has their own reasons for doing genealogy. Some people like puzzles and consider tracing family roots as an entertaining pastime. Others do it to preserve the memories and knowledge of older family members for future generations. Some people use genealogy as a means of reestablishing or reinforcing ties with distant family members. Others would like to demonstrate their relationship to famous (or infamous) personages. Some would like to write a family history. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do it for religious reasons.

About Us: A profound lack of understanding of the huge cost in lives of the Cuban Revolution has contributed to pervasive ignorance of the brutal nature of the Castro regime. The names and faces of many victims remain unknown, their stories untold. Telling their stories may move people and nations to demand the end of oppression. More enduringly, learning of the human cost of these tragic events can move people to forsake violence as a means to forge their history....

Nuestro surrealismo cubano.

Miguel A. García Puñales
Columnista

More from Website: Janet Ray Weininger, President and Founder

When Janet Ray Weininger was six-years-old, she lost her father, Thomas "Pete" Ray. Ray, an American pilot for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), had given his life in an attempt to liberate Cuban during the 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion. Her love of her father, patriotism, and deep code of loyalty led her on an eighteen-year search to find him when the United States Government chose to disavow him. In 1979, she was able to recover his remains from a Havana morgue where he had been kept on exhibition. Her search for the truth led the CIA to publicly acknowledge Thomas "Pete" Ray for his "selfless devotion to duty and dedication to the national interests of the United States. he was awarded the Distinguished Intelligence Cross and The Exceptional Service Medallion.

OrishaProdutions.Com: Orisha Productions is dedicated to the preservation of Cuban music, most importantly the African rhythm and dance which put Cuba on the map, the "Rumba". This Bilingual website educates the reader with the origins of the Rumba and provides the reader with videos of bands that are keeping it alive in Cuba now. This website is very educational to music lovers, take a good look at the website and the links associated with it.

From Website:"Enter now the AfroCuban Rumba, a sound unique to Cuba. There have always been Cubans whom migrated to the United States that kept Rumba tradition alive. But for the most part the majority has lived in New York, Miami San Francisco and other larger cities leaving a huge unfulfilled yearning. That is the original reason for my visiting Cuba, to hear for myself if it really existed. It does. And beyond what I expected. The music of the Santeria religion was as close as we could get. The music associated with the religion, ideally played on bata' is played as well on a chair for a drum, a tea kettle for a cowbell, or spoons for clave, a lead singer and coro and the soul. Rogelio Marti (deceased)in the United States and Francisco Aguabella in the west coast and a few other non-Cubans have carried the torch so to speak for many years, but now the Cuban Rumba is alive and well for anyone anywhere to view to their hearts content. Whether for studying or pleasure or both, the choice is now yours."

Puerto Rico's 65TH Infantry Regiment (US Army):

This website is dedicated to the "Forgotten" Puerto Rican Heroes who fought for the United States of America in the "Forgotten War", the Korean War. Out of the 148,000 Hispanic-Americans who fought for America in the Korean War, 60,000 were Puerto Ricans and most of them fought for the 65TH Infantry Regiment. They went by the nickname "The Borinqueneers".

From Website: "The 65th Infantry Regiment, comprised primarily of Puerto Ricans, began as a volunteer regiment in 1899 and participated in WWI and WWII.  It was during the Korean War, that they made their mark and saw extensive combat. In this website dedicated to their accomplishments, you will find their history, photographs, newspaper articles, listings of their many award recipients, and sadly, a listing of those who sacrificed their lives defending American ideals. As we celebrate over a century of service to the nation and commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War, we invite you to pay tribute to those Puerto Ricans and fellow Americans who served proudly.
