"Castro's Humanitarian Bluff"

By José Reyes 9 9/3/2005

Fidel is up to his old tricks again. On September 2nd "El  Comemierdante" Fidel Castro said on a radio and television address that he would send 1,100 doctors and "26 Tons" of medicine to the afflicted areas of hurricane Katrina. This is just another futile attempt to get some recognition and to redeem himself from all the devastating harm he has afflicted on Cuba for the last 46 years. This is another act of desperation from the Castro regime to gain some trust from the poor Cuban populous. He's a master of the bluff, do you really think he has "26 Tons" of medicine? He knows very well that President Bush will reject his offer, but with this bluff, he thinks, he will gain some humanitarian respect from the global community. It's too late for that and he knows that, the people in Cuba and around the world know very well where he is coming from. He is focusing on the youth, who are not aware of all the damage he has caused NOAA satellite image of Hurricane Katrina taken on Aug. 28, 2005, at 11:45 a.m. EDT when the storm was a Category Five hurricane.to the Cuban people. He is very aware and is trying to capitalize on the racial friction concerning the slow response by the disaster agencies to the devastating destruction of hurricane Katrina. When president Bush offered aid to Castro in early July when hurricane Dennis and Fidel said "No, we can handle it", "We don't need your help". Meanwhile, the Cuban people suffered as their paper houses ripped apart. The people in Cuba are dirt poor, the average Cuban makes $13.50  a month and they have a shortage of everything, including medicine. Castro sends his international medical unit around the world and makes a profit on it, charging for his services and pocketing the money. This latest bluff is directed to show his concern for the poor but indirectly, he is trying to add fuel to the racial tensions in America. He took this calculated measure in New York in the early 60's, when he  was invited to New York by the U.N. He was dissatisfied with the food in the Hotel he was staying in midtown Manhattan, so he arranged and delivered a speech in the famous Riverside Church in Harlem and stayed overnight in a Hotel there with a balcony, where he emerged at night to show his support to the black community there. Meanwhile, now in Cuba, there is extreme racial discrimination occurring. The writings of Martin Luther King Jr. are not accepted as a learning tool in Cuba and if caught reading them, the punishment is severe. If Martin Luther King Jr. was alive now, he would denounce Fidel for breaking all the human rights of the Cuban people. When Castro was asked about the slow response to the victims of Katrina by the US government and he answered,  "This is not the time to kick an adversary while he's down." When Dennis smashed into Cuba, the only attention he centered on in Cuba was the Casinos and the Hotels where prostitution runs rampant. Castro is trying to use the "Race Card" here so he can create tension and stay in power longer.

If this catastrophe would have occurred in a all-white "Poor" neighborhood, it would have taken just as long to get assistance to the victims. This is not a racial issue, like Castro is implying. This is a humanitarian outpour of support that is taking place right now around the United States and around the world. The pictures you see of people floating around dead in the water are from the initial contact of Katrina when it smashed onto land at a speed of "175 Miles per Hour" and of the levees that collapsed with the rush of water created by this destructive monster. This is a major catastrophe and people will realize in the near future how rapidly the United States government responded. There were a total of 6 States that were struck by this deadly hurricane; Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia. It's in times like this when America comes through, over and over again. There are hundred of thousands of people rushing to the aid of blacks and whites that were affected by this monster hurricane. There are millions of people, black and white, donating money, and food towards the relief funds. Castro is not trying to help here, he is just starting trouble. "God Bless America".
