Fidel on HBO "Insecurity"

By Jose Reyes    4/25/04

There is a  program that has aired on HBO "Looking for Fidel" with an interview from director Oliver Stone with Fidel Castro concerning the 75 dissidents who are serving an average of 20 year jail terms for voicing there opinions either in books, periodicals or on the internet. This was a follow-up interview from last year when Oliver Stone was just about to launch a Castro-friendly Documentary, "Comandante" and it was temporarily canceled. The reason why it was canceled was because the arrest of the 75 Cuban dissidents. He was furious about the cancellation and went back to Cuba to interview Castro about the situation and the Human Rights issue. I'm so glad and in a way, very surprised how they convinced Castro to do this interview, I guess there has been too much pressure on him and on Oliver Stone also from all the Human Rights organizations, located around the world, concerning the imprisoned in Cuba. In this interview you can clearly see a stubborn old man who's time is up. He never answered a question directly, instead he answered with his own question. It is very clear that he has lost grasp of power along with his tenacity of promoting communism with real confidence. It just makes me laugh when he mentions the United States as interfering with the development of Cuba for 44 years. I still would like for someone to explain to me exactly what is the goal that Castro wants to achieve so I would understand. He wants independence from Democracy and he's had it for 44 years and what has he done, nothing!

When you see the program, they will show a handful of Cubans praising Castro, stating that everybody goes to school and when you hear the vocabulary they are using, it seems like they never got passed the eighth grade. These people have been brain washed and you know what, they didn't mind, because these are people who are lazy and don't like to work, all they want to do is get everything handed to them. They don't care about improving themselves and improving their country. They are the ones Castro uses to spy on and the ones they use to seek out Cubans who attempt to direct Cuba towards freedom. How can you be happy when you have no cloth to wear, nothing to eat, no  transportation, no freedom of speech, no future aspirations. Everybody is a slave in Cuba, Castro has drained all the dignity of the Cuban population with that same old story "Its because of America", no, its because of him. He was also asked, why the trials for the 75 dissidents were held behind closed doors and no public allowed, he answered that there were people there, yes, the immediate family members, wow! When Oliver Stone asked him why only them, he answered that he didn't want to put on a show like they do in America. It's because he was afraid that everyone would hear the dissidents charged for "Actions of Conscience", speak their minds. Castro mentioned that these 75 dissidents were receiving money from the United States, that's a lie, no one needs money to speak their mind and start a petition. If Castro was so sure of his communist system then he would have let them be, but by handing out 20 year sentences all he is doing is showing his insecurity with insignificant punishment. These people weren't carrying any weapons in their hands, they aren't terrorists as he claims.

Fidel Castro and Oliver Stone                  Ent

In America you can punch up a Cuban Propaganda Website and read it from top to bottom and if you want to talk to everybody about it and start a petition no one will throw you in jail. I see many people who have websites here in America and are promoting Cuban tourism, I don't think its right but I have to tolerate it. I can also write about these websites, which I am planning to do so very soon, and speak my mind, how they are providing money to Castro's regime and prolonging our fellow Cubans the freedom they desperately deserve. That's what I like about this country, the opportunity to express yourself but also the ability to communicate and settle a problem or a disagreement in a civilized fashion.

A woman stated in an angry voice "In Cuba we have Schools, TV and Computers", well that's great, but what are you going to study in school, what are you going to watch on TV and what are you going to learn with a computer when Castro dictates the subjects that you will be studying, what programs you can see and you cannot see on TV and absolutely no access to the internet. The Cuban people are very frail now, since Castro has drained all the mental strength from them, meanwhile his top brass are nice and healthy, living the good life, with all the profits they are making from the tourism.

Castro attempting to laugh during media session

He mentioned that if he dies tomorrow, that everything will stay the same, I don't think so! If he was smart he should have stepped down a long time ago and control this regime from a different position, instead this communist dictatorship will terminate just as fast as or even faster than how it took power. This is what happens when you put all the burden on yourself, think about it, when you hear the word Cuba, you identify it with Castro, either if you sympathize with him or you hate his guts.  Well if you watch the interview, you'll see an insecure, white bearded, senile old man with really nothing to say anymore. His time is coming and when he is gone and Cuba is free again then everyone will see all the damage that he has done to a beautiful society.
