"Cuba must Change"       Bush

By Jose Reyes 10/12/03

Those were the exact words used by our President on Saturday the 10th of October, as he spoke to a strong contingency of politicians from South Florida. He is laying down a constructive plan to apply more pressure on the Cuban Dictatorship in order to have a fair election in Cuba. Stating, in a strong voice, "Cuba will soon be free again", and also, in a sure tone of voice, stated "Clearly, the Castro regime will not change by its own choice, but Cuba must change". His goal is to strengthen the laws prohibiting US citizens from visiting Cuba. He is concentrating on blocking the US dollars from entering Cuban soil and eventually slipping into Castro's greedy pockets. These restrictions by the US government are currently in effect at the present time but Bush is enforcing a new stream of laws and regulations to tighten the screws on the Castro Regime. He also stated that all the lines of communication must be improved so the Cuban people can learn the deceit behind the words of Castro. The lines of communication that are presently being used are Radio Marti and TV Marti. The internet is totally controlled by the Regime and carries stiff punishments for its violators.

Well, here we go again, its getting close to election time and the current Republican Commander-and-Chief  has to throw a bone to the Cuban-American community so he can get his votes, especially in Florida. At least its something, because if it were a Democrat then we wouldn't hear anything at all. Bush has made a decent effort and is cooperating with the Cuban-Americans rather well but has not really made any significant advancements to eliminate Castro. I'm pretty satisfied with the sanctions and the currency blockade, but the effect is very minimal. Not to mention, after our involvement in Iraq, I don't think the Cuban-Americans in this country will see any type of physical engagement with the Castro Regime for at least 3 more years. However, promoting Radio Marti (HEAR) and TV Marti (SEE) to the American public is a plus. Our economy is not strong at the moment and the American public is in an understandably passive mood since our young soldiers are being killed daily in Iraq. Things are very tough nowadays but I feel they will improve in the near future. I feel the internet is the inexpensive and most effective way to communicate with the innocent Cuban people, so we can give them hope and encouragement. There are emails being sent to the US everyday from Cuba and hopefully they are reading my articles and all the articles being written by my compatriots here in America. We love you and we're furiously trying to get that "Hijo de Puta" out of there. The day will come soon, when we could stand together and celebrate a "Free Cuba".
