"Tourism is the Culprit"

 Jose Reyes  5/30/2005

The beauty of Cuba and all the escape it can offer to a tourist is unfortunately the big problem there. If Cuba wasn't so beautiful and warm, it would be free right now. The Europeans do not want Cuba to be free, so they can have their vacations there. Spain has taken Cuba back from the Cuban people by providing economical assistance to the Castro regime and building hundreds of Hotels, they are the chief importers to the island. Tourism is the Culprit, the tourist, especially the Europeans are the ones who want to own the island. The Europeans are not aware and really care little about the Cuban people, they have only a few weeks to rest and are fixated more on the tropical atmosphere, casinos and prostitution. I'm not saying all the tourist visit Cuba for that specific reason, you also have the curious tourist, who like to explore the island and study the countryside, they meet some poor people on their adventures and strike up a conversation but exchanges of thoughts are frequently interrupted and terminated by Castro's special police, the rule in Cuba is "Don't Mingle with the Tourist". The Cuban people are simply prisoners of their own country.

Castro is worth about $550 Million now in 2005 and was worth $195 Million in 1993, he must be prospering with the tourism business, meanwhile the Cuban people are starving. Castro's lame excuse is blaming the embargo of the United States as to their misfortunes, why aren't the European countries involved with the embargo? The United States is acting in a rightful way, it's the European countries that are promoting tourism and with the powerful aid of the internet, European vacationers can book a flight online to the beautiful island of Cuba so they could eat like kings and queens while enjoying the warm climate of the Caribbean. The European countries are being real hypocrites when dealing with Cuba, they acknowledge all the criminal activity and all the human rights violations when they are at home but forget all about it when they are walking on the beautiful beaches of Cuba. I'm not saying that all the European people think in this matter, there's just a small minority, my point is directed more towards the stand, the governments of countries like Spain, Russia, Italy, England, France, Germany and the rest of Europe, take concerning the human rights violation that are taking place in Cuba right now. While they are feeding the Castro regime with billions of dollars yearly, they contradict themselves and take the same approach Castro takes and blames the hardship of the Cuban people with the US embargo. These Governments care less about all the injustices that are going on in Cuba. By taking this stand, they are just fueling the fire and depriving the poor Cuban people from enjoying the fruits of freedom. The Cuban people are being treated like animals and the European Governments continue promoting tourism, why don't these countries join the embargo? The Castro regime's main objective is to promote a prostitution ring which runs rampant throughout these hotels, could these European tourists be going to Cuba for sexual needs? I'm sure that 75 percent of the tourist are there for that sole reason. What kind of future do the Cuban people have especially the beautiful Cuban Woman? Tourism is the culprit and the European governments are the problem.
